About the Competition

Artificial Intelligence is rapidly changing how people learn, work, communicate, create, do business and participate in society. For Nigeria, a country with a large and youthful population, these changes present important opportunities as well as challenges. Young people are likely to experience many of these transformations most directly, but they also have the potential to shape how Nigeria responds to and benefits from them.

This essay competition invites young people to reflect critically and creatively on what the age of Artificial Intelligence could mean for them and for Nigeria’s future. Entrants may explore the opportunities AI presents for education, employment, entrepreneurship, innovation, governance, democracy, the creative economy and Nigeria’s engagement with the wider world. They may equally consider questions of inequality, access, ethics, misinformation, privacy, job displacement and the risk that some young people or communities could be left behind. Entrants are not expected to address every issue listed and may concentrate on one issue or a set of closely connected issues.
